Hello from Indiana!
My name is Theresa and I don't have a garter snake yet! I live in Indianapolis with my 12 yo twin boys. Everyone wants to know if I have weird pets because I have boys. Nope, I just use them as "my" excuse!
We have two dogs, one cat, one leopard gecko, one female betta, one wee hognose snake, and a A versicolor tarantula! Except for one dog and the leo, all have been acquired in the past year! Yikes, maybe I better not join your forum! (I've been reading posts and have learned what enablers you all are!)
I've got my eye on a blue Florida het something, that a forum member has listed in the ads.
I'm interested in reading through all the posts re: cohabbing, since most of the snake world doesn't subscribe to it! Which forum section has the mosts posts about it? Husbandry? Anyway, I'm thinking of kicking the leo out of her greatly un-used 20L and putting 2 males in there.
I'm a research-a-holic, but that's kept me from getting too many pets that I can't care for properly. When we chose wrong, we do our best to find them a better situation. After a year with our hognose, I've been leaning towards a second snake. I saw the most awesome Aru GTP on another forum, but really am not equipped to handle a 6'-7' snake.
Anyway, I'm gonna spend the next few days digging through the archives, learning as I go!

Re: Hello from Indiana!
Welcome aboard Theresa. As a new garter owner I can personally say that the information and responses to questions on this forum are invaluable, you've come to the right place. And you won't be disappointed with a garter snake. If you're worried about acquiring more animals, stop reading now, we started with one 3 weeks ago and now have 5 in the house.
I'm intrigued by the female betta. You don't see too many females, and I'm looking for a male in the next week or two (tank is cycling, but nearly ready).

Welcome! Getting a garter snake will be one of the best choices you'll ever make! They make great friends once they get to know and trust you.
