    Hi from Indiana

I don't know if this will double post or not, but it seems my first post...didn't. I have two common (eastern?) garter snakes that we caught in the wild a couple of months ago. I caught them for my son, but I am living vicariously through him as I had a couple of garters in high school. I think that we have a male and female, both about 19" long. I am guessing that these are both adults. Does anyone know how big they will get? Both are eating large pinkys...the female is a little piggy. She ate 5 large pinkys yesterday!

I have already learned a lot just by lurking, waiting to finalize my registration to finalize. I look forward to talking to you in the future.

Welcome aboard, Scott. The first posts of new members don't show up until a moderator has had a chance to approve them.

The record for female common garters is about 54-55", but most will stay much smaller than that, around 35", I suppose. Males don't get bigger than 27", but again, there's a bit of variation. There's so much variation that it's difficult to give an exact figure.
