    Might be a dumb question...

This may be a dumb question. But I was curious if ribbons ever breed with garters. I have a male ribbon and was wanting to get a female garter. I just want to make sure I'm not going to end up with a lot of baby snakes if I do that. Also, Beth was curious if there might be a risk of the garter eating the ribbon. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

i think i read somewhere that there is a garter/ribben integrade found in the wild but we snake keepers like to try and keep the bloodlines straight without making hybrids i woldnt suggest it but i have no knowledge as to how well garters and ribbons do in a single enclosure together

They will definately breed if the conditions are right. A ribbon snake is a garter snake, they just have different common names. They're both thamnophis. So they'll act similarly, and they would eventually breed.

What conditions do they need to breed?

Well the best way to get them to breed is to brumate them. But in some cases, they will just breed, without brumating.

Huh. That's kind of a bummer cause I was wanting a female garter since they're significantly larger than the males. Would it be a bad idea to put a male garter in with Sku?

Nope, there shouldn't be a problem with that.

Just make sure that there isn't a huge size difference between them.
