Dumb Luck
This morning I went down to the snake room and fed one of the large enclosures. In this enclosure are my 3 breeding females and the male albino Red Sided(T.s.parietalis) I picked up last year.
All were eating good and things were going well. Then one of my kids yelled for me, in one of those "Please, come right now" voices.
I ran upstairs to see what was wrong. It was nothing serious and I handled the problem. Then the phone rang and an elderly neighbor needed my help with something. Then I had to take my daughter Gabby to the doctor for a minor issue. Once back home I finished helping the neighbor. Then I drove Tank to the other side of town to see the lady that had given him to us. Once back home and a little relax time I then cooked Dinner.
Approximately 10 minutes ago I asked Gabby to cut some worms up for the baby radixes that are living upstairs. She went down to the snake room and moments later let out a yell. It was another of those yells that demanded immediate response. As I ran down to the snake room I was hoping she had located my missing T.atratus but soon saw the problem.
I left the door open to my Red Sided garter snakes. All I could imagine was that all the snakes were out including my prized albino.
As dumb luck would have it everyone was still in the enclosure, safe and sound after 8 hours of opportunity to escape.
I'm a dumb, lucky guy.

Re: Dumb Luck
I did that with Snakey and Mama. The tank was left open for about 4 hours while I was napping. Mama and Snakey never left the tank. Maybe that's a great sign that they truly feel comfortable where they are.

Or scared to death they'll be grounded for life if they leave.

Re: Dumb Luck
Wow, that's lucky... They might have just decided it'd be a better idea to stay in the tank where the food comes to them.

I did that with my oldest red sided, well I didn't leave the lid open, I was holding him and laying on my bed surfing the net then I woke up a couple hours later. I found spot in my pants pocket all curled up

Re: Dumb Luck
while reading your report on your criminal irresponsibility in the rep room something was tugging at my memory then i remembered this in the garter gathering thread
THERE WAS A SNAKE KEEPER NAMED STEVE
WHO HAD A NICE TRICK UP HIS SLEEVE
HE WOULD TREAT THEM SO NEAT
AT HIS RADIX RETREAT
THE SNAKES NEVER WANTED TO LEAVE
