    help me identify this snake plzz no pics

    i caught a snake on the side of my house it'sabout 10 inches long it has stripes of brown but you can hardly notice a really small head and darker head it's not a lined snake becaus eits belly is whitish/yellowish with no spots or anything ive had him for 2 days he hasent bit me and when i open the cage he comes to my hand,plus the door was open all dya yesterday(accident) and he didnt leave?

    Is his tongue red with a black tip? That indicates some type of garter snake (thamnophis).

    I'm thinking a Dekay's too, but with only limited info, I really can't be sure.

    from the description i'd say brown (DeKay's) snake...but, photos will help for a positive id.

    im thinking its the dekays or brown snake too itsx jsut that irs spoyts arent as noticeable ro dark as the pics on web but there heads look exactly the same what would it eat and does it swimm? thaqnks

    Cody, Dekayi snakes eat slugs and earth worms. They can swim, but don't do it like water snakes, garters and ribbons.
