Have you ever tried pelletized food for your snakes??

Hi, the thing is that i was preparing the fish i used to feed my T. proximus and while i was doing it i offered my snake pelletized food which is used fot turtles, lizards and some amphibians; at the beginning it wasn't interested but then the snake started to eat it, and it seems to like him. I put some water in the food dish to make the food softer. Have your snakes ever eaten pelletized food? do you think its safe?

What kind of food was it specifically? I know that you can give garters reptomin, which is actually turtle food...but how much you can safely feed them I do not know. I do not know about other types of pellet foods. In the future it would be better not to offer the snake any type of food until you know for sure that it is safe . Certain things can make garters and ribbons sick so you have to be careful what you give them. I'm not sure how to link you to a caresheet on here but one of the other members can certainly help you with that.

I would stick with real snake food. I'm not a fan of food pellets for any animal though. I think they need to eat what they would in the wild, or as close to as you can to get the nutritional balance they need.

I have it bookmarked. If you click on the link, after it opens you can hold ctrl and "d" down and that will create a bookmark.

Personally, if the snake will eat it, I would only give it as a rare "snack" and not as a staple item in the diet.

Crushing up a few sticks and sprinkling it on the fish and/or worms is a decent way to suppliment garter foods, You could also insert one stick into a pinkie as a suppliment, But I really wouldn't recommend giving turtle pellets as a primary diet.

Re: Have you ever tried pelletized food for your snakes??

Thanks to all of you, it was the first time i offered that kind of food, i always feed him with fish, not even insects or pinky because he just don't even pay attention to them, thanks for the care sheet iīve read it dozens of times so donīt worry, i was just looking for an alternative way to provide enough nutrients but yeah i shouldn't had done that without previous knowledge. Well the good new is that i know the biologist who invented this food that is really recommended for turtles and other reptiles here in Mexico, its the best way to feed your animals since 1992 so i will ask him is the food is safe for my snake and i would let you know guys, thanks a lot
