Never soaks anymore... is that bad?

I haven't seen my garter soak since last year when I first got him. Always read/heard that they soak alot. Is it a bad sign if they aren't soaking?

Some of mine soak a lot, some hardly ever soak.

Mine soak when they want or need to. If the humidity is high they don't soak as often, but when it's low (like in the winter) they soak more often. I try to keep my office/snake room as high humidity as possible. Maybe he's just completely content with the humidity that he has?

To soak or not to soak. That is the question.
    Snakes personal preference.

I have often heard that Garters need a dry habitat. I have a two part enclosure - one section full of water, the other dry land - and mine tend to spend a great deal of their time in the water side.

Heck, Little Dude loves to go swimming in winter temperatures. She'd probably join the Polar Bear Club if they allowed snakes.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

In my experience I've found excessive(a day or longer) soaking is usually a red flag to check to parasites, possible mites.
My snakes like to catch a swim but not soak for too long unless they are going to shed.

My snakes almost never soak. I have about 15 of them, and 3 different species. Some of the smaller northwesterns soak but it's not very often.

The only ones out of 12 that frequently soak are my babies. They like to circle round their water dish or pretend to swim with just their heads and part of their neck in the water when they're "hunting"
