    totally weird behaviour

last night Chloe went totally spastic - sort of like when a cat bounces off the wall, except this time it was my normally mellow pallidulus
what freaked me out was that she also looked uncommonly large for a snake that hasn't eaten in a couple of months
a quick check turned up all the other cage inhabitants well - one of them not happy at having been bothered and going a bit pissy
another close look at Chloe showed nothing wrong with her and the largeness just pretty normal-looking
so I think it was the music
we like to turn our daughter on to some of the movie "classics" now and then, and last night in was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which has the most heinously dated soundtrack
that 4'x2' cage Chloe shares with two other females is right next to the TV, and she started going bonkers when that Southamerican Getaway piece was playing - it almost looked like she was being jerked around by the music

Interesting. I guess it could indeed be the music, if the TV is that close. Or maybe something happened in that enclosure.

Sounds like self expression. Since she's never had formal dance lessons

It could be the music if they are not accustomed to it. Steve's idea may yet proove out

I like Steve's idea. it put the image of a bunch of crazily dancing snakes in my head!
I have music on all the time, sometimes its a bit loud but my snakes never seem to mind. I make sure to check on them when I listen to it in case it's scaring them.

When I first got Squirt, I was listening to some heavy metal and it seemed to scare him at first. He kept going up the side of his tank and continuously wiggling his belly, kind of like bellydance. After I noticed him doing that, I turned it off and he went back to normal.

...But baby, I can dance dance dance dance dance dance!

Sorry... I had to quote one of my favorite youtube stars... Jon Lajoie!

That does sound odd, but possibly she sensed some odd vibes from the music!

On another note, loud music is a constant in my living room and all of my snakes are accustomed to it as a result.
Back when I did choice chamber experiments there was a preference for errattic music (classical, heavy metal) as opposed to rigid beats (techno, pop). Organic rhythms preferred to synthestic ones.

i'm gonna agree with you! that guy is hilarious!

my thoughts are the vibrations as well. maybe the air pressure was different and allowed the waves/vibrations to move differently? i know little about anything like this, which is sad because i am a musician. i just know sometimes my set-up sounds amazing and other days i'm incredibly irritated by it. maybe that day was just one of those "irritated by it" days? haha

Selena seems to prefer when the tv next to her enclosure is on...just something I've noticed. Also, she freaked out out of nowhere yesterday...I was holding her and she just started spazing out like she was afraid of something...I guess we never know what is going on in their little heads.

Mama calms down when I have certain kinds of music on and will be restless when I have it off. I listen to a lot of world music, and that's usually what seems to make her stop moving around. Maybe it's the way it vibrates... kind of like how the way it sounds is relaxing to me, the way it feels to her is also relaxing.
