    Feeder frogs?

Hi. I keep a few garters, and a bunch of other reptiles who would probably fancy a frog now and then. So I've been looking into the Hymenochirus species, since they're quite productive and very easy to care for. But I can't seem to find anything about them being poisonous or bad to digest, neither the opposit.

Any of you had experience feeding with these frogs? I could just buy frogs legs frozen, but I prefer knowing a few more details on what I feed my animals.

I do recall seeing one of these aquatic frogs in a pet store with a live worm hanging out of it's rear end. Not something I'd want my snake to eat. If you can get frog legs frozen, that would be great. If I could find them in stores around my area, I would get some. They do show up in butcher shops occasionally.

    Not the way they're collected.

Oh, well... they're farmed here. The USDA doesn't allow frog legs to be collected from the wild for human consumption. They are farmed under strict supervision and inspected. When I buy them here, they are vacuum sealed and have the USDA stamp on them. I guess that's why they are rather expensive. Personally, I think they taste like spit but the snakes sure do like them.

They are Rana catesbeiana hind legs.

Worms would be yet another reason to breed the frogs myself I'm fully aware of the risks when buying from a pet store, but I'm pretty sure I can find a private breeder for these species.

But it sounds like I should be extra careful if I want to try out the frogs legs, thanks for the warning

They chop the legs off a living frog to harvest them.

Yes, the frog is picked up and it's legs are chopped off while the frog is still alive, and the bodies chucked into a heap to die slow.

Most of the frogs provided for the food industry are slaughtered in China where there is no humane society or any regulations to prohibit unethical animal treatment.
