Re: Do captive breed snakes need to brumate?

If the snake is from a range that normally brumates than yes, they may want to brumate. Even if captive bred.
Brumation is an intricate part of breeding. Both the male and female will prepare for breeding during this time.
It's especially important for the female. Ovulation takes place during brumation so that the female is ready to breed in the Spring. Brumation optimizes the chance at successful breeding in the Spring.
With all that being said. Non-brumated snakes will breed. I have it happen all the time on the Ranch.
I must say that more of my brumated snakes breed then the non-brumated snakes though.
