    Retained eggs/blockage

I had to rush my big female T.s.parietalis(JW) over to the Vet. this morning. It was obvious she had some kind of blockage. He did an x-ray and the gave her an enema. The blockage was about 8 inches long. I think she retained an egg chain and it calcified, causing the blockage. I'm hoping she will start eating soon and she'll continue to improve. She is an old snake so I fear for her future.

Did the enema work then? I thought retained eggs had to be removed another way because they are not in the digestive tract.

Does an enema work with an impaction if the item is not soluble? Just curious, I have yet to have that issue and am dreading the day if/when it happens.

    Thomas,
I can't answer your question. I'll have to give my Vet. a call.

I of course am very worried about her. She is an old snake and I hope this isn't the end for her. She'll be getting a warm bath everyday for the next week. I'm sure she is very sore from the treatment.

    Thomas,
Well, throw out my thoughts about retained eggs. My Vet. says it was all in the digestive track. He has no idea as to what it was.
I jumped the gun on eggs since it looked like dried slugs I've found before.

It would be interesting to find out what was causing the blockage, if it was something she injested in the wild or if she has some other issues. I hope she pulls through for you, keep us posted on how she is doing.

She's been in my care for the last year and was in a captive situation for a few years before that.
