    Thanksgiving dinner on the Ranch

I try to feed my snakes as varied a diet as possible. I rotate from, worms to f/t mice to salmon. I feed one of them for a 2 week period, then switch to another. Yesterday, I cooked up the family turkey. The neck, gizzard, liver and heart are usually kept aside for my old girl(dog) Alex. It's hard to believe it's been a year since her passing. This year I was left with those item. I have fed chicken heart to my radixes before, so I decided to try the turkey heart and liver out on them.
They loved it. I think I'll invest in some for the freezer and add it into their food rotation once in awhile. Since they are cheap and easy to prepare I think they will come in handy on those days when I'm short on time as well as money.

I've gone through 4300 pinkies in the last 7 months. I think I will claim a few hundred of these radixes as deductions on this year's taxes

Glad to hear they liked it. Can't imagine it would hurt them as part of a varied diet... but you knew that

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

I don't think my radixes should miss out on a good Thanksgiving dinner just because they are Thamnophis.

Jeez, where the heck are you buying pinkies? $3-$4 for 3? Holy crud! if they were that high, I'd have to consider raising my own. But heck, at $0.08 let someone else have those stinky varmits in their house. Right guido?

But then, I only have one snake that would eat rodents; Jewels the milk snake; but she can handle live adult mice, or baby rats about the same size, and she doesn't eat very often. She costs me a whopping $2 a month to feed. She will eat chicken meat too. I should have thought of that. I did cook a small turkey for guests (I hate turkey) but I ate the liver myself (I love liver of any kind) and used the rest of the parts in the gravy. Next time, I'll save the heart for her.

I'm going to try that with my group. I bet they'll love it, especially the little ones. They seem up to trying almost anything!

Just a thought on the chicken meat.
It's very low in Vitamin A. A long time ago I had a small snapping turtle who I fed chicken, mainly. Developed a Vitamin A deficiency. I had to give it shots for a month.
If the chicken is part of a varied diet I guess it's not that big a deal but something to be aware of.
