yup - I had an incident today, and will have to add some security features to an enclosure
one of my newly adopted snakes, a good size eastern female, renamed "You Beast!", got out today
what first alerted me was a congregation of all household cats by the right corner of the piano, but since I didn't see anything, and I do have roaches too, I did a tour of the cages before tearing things apart. I was convinced that it could only be one of the smaller snakes, and then I saw the piece of tail in the middle of the living room floor, and I feared the worst - a badly mangled snake I was going to have to put out of her misery. By then I realized, it was You Beast! who'd gone awol, and I went to pick up some equipment (gloves, paper towels, tongs) while locking the cats into the kitchen
thankfully it turned out okay. I managed to chase her out from under the piano fairly quickly and grab her. Aside from the missing piece of tail there was another small puncture wound on the tail - other than that she seems fine - whew
I am pretty sure the cage getting open was a collaborative effort between the snake and the cats

that is the reason I dislike cats. They simply cannot leave anything alone and they WILL kill a snake if they find it. With a dog, there is a good chance he will leave it alone, but cats just cannot leave something alone! We have cats here, and I love my old man cat Buster (he's 17) but when we move out we will NOT have cats in my house!

I read somewhere that in Turkish harems a few hundred years ago, disobedient concubines were thrown naked into a room full of starved cats - scary thought
even when well fed, they are not to be taken lightly; ours have been petted and coddled into mushballs that purr when I clip their claws, but I am sure our big one could do some damage to me on his own, and I'm grateful I've never had to bathe him
most certainly there is absolutely nothing amiss with his predator instincts, nor those of his sister, and the two of them also "hunt" together, communicating with low-toned cackling sounds
I am really glad that new girl was fast enough not to end up in worse shape than she did

I love cats .... but they are definately the biggest threats to native wildlife of all the exotic pets. Also, after seeing the effect a simple piece of string can have on the most unsuspecting moggy, I can't really blame them for getting over-exited when a 'self-motivated' super-sized piece of string comes along.

Like Greg's, my cats love to sit on top of my snake houses and watch from above. My snakes seem to enjoy the attention as well. They don't know any better (the squigglies). I am constantly chasing the cats off the tanks, then they go off to watch the frogs and/or crickets. Whatever, it's a losing battle.

They have eaten my worms that my daughter has left out after feeding the snakes, my feeder fish (if there were any left), etc.

I still love my cats but need to keep a watchful eye, just like with the children!

Damn cat ,2 years ago my friend had and empty aquarium with a nice set up ,he agree to take care of one of my baby amazone tree boa.A solide yellow male best back up I had....his damn cat jump on the top screen and the snake got out of the aquarium.

My firend saw few blood trace one the floor ,few seconde later he saw the cat tried to pulled out the little boa from a tiny hole in the wall, he tried to take the snake out but he was unable ,he notice few scratch on the boa.Finally he lost my back up boa in the wall .
His damn cat was lost few days later when he jump from the balcony...never saw this cat again.

cats can open sliding doors, damage metal screening, pull the screening out of the frame, knock over heat lamps and cause fires, knock over small glass tanks and any size critter keeper, and more
there's a lot to think of - it's not much different from child proofing a home,
