    A few Questions...

    Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, so here we go:

I have been keeping Garters for a few years now nut never really got into it past just caring for them and having one as a pet.

The other day, I caught an XXL Garter which I have caught before but let go. I really like her because she is so big and calm. My question is, first, are Garters generally calmer when they are pregnant? I think she may be pregnant because she is so fat and isn't eating (assuming that she is a she). I would like to keep her, but not if she will become less calm after having babies.

    Any ideas?

Also, have another garter which is a lot smaller (normal size) and I would like to put the two together. My question is is, will the larger one (because she is so big) be tempted to fight with and/or eat the smaller one?

Here are some pics of the XXL Garter, do you think she is pregnant?

She is a little over 3ft long:

    All input is welcome...

holy cow! she is big and she does look gravid!!! That's weird she's so calm.. I find that my females are over-reactive and really flippy when gravid. She must be an exception!!!

I'm no expert on sexing, so I won't try. There are many more expertised people on this forum who I'm sure will respond. I just want to say you have a beautiful snake!

    Where are you from?

    And, of course, Welcome!

What a big, gorgeous, girl! Her temperament likely won't change a ton after she has babies, but then again, I've never owned a gravid girl, so you might want to wait for other opinions What are your plans for the babies? Is it safe to release them where you caught her?

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

    Re: A few Questions...

Yeah, she is very calm, when I go to take her out of her tank, she just sorta sits there and says "where are we off to now" she doesn't try to escape and she doesn't freak out either. I have another smaller female that is pretty wild and can't sit still. That is why I'd consider keeping the big one and letting the little one go. The only other thing is, is that the big one won't eat. Is it possible that she won't eat because she has babies on the way? If I can't get her eating, then there is no chance I can keep her long term. (I've had her for about 5-6 days) If she has babies, I will probably take them to a large field area around my house with lots of tall grass and basically no people.

    Re: A few Questions...

Sorry for the late reply but I was out of town.

So is it possible that the reason that she isn't eating is that she is going to give birth soon? I'm kinda worried since she isn't eating. And if she isn't eating because she is going to give birth, is there any idea how soon she'll give birth?
