Removing smoke smell

Bought a large bag of fake vines at a yard sale. Cheap $3.50 The problems is the former owner was a smoker and these things stink. I've run them through the dishwasher twice to no avail. Will placing them out in the sun for a few days help. Any help would be great. I can't use them the way they are and would hate to be forced to pitch them.

If the sun thing doesn't work, maybe try a light bleach solution?

The smoke smell might be the least of your worries, though. Those plants don't sound too healthy to have around snakes with or without the smell, who knows how toxic they have become due to the tobacco smoke.

Have you tried Febreze?

I've found sun and wind to be the most reliable odour removers
the UV lighting of the sun will also kill a host of unwanted microorganisms
what are these made of? there are some materials I might not want to put in with my snakes

It appears to be the kind of fake vines and plants you can buy at Walmart. I'm trying a product called Odoban. I'm going to run them through the washing machine with some bleach after this stuff has a chance to work. I've been using these kinds of plants for year in many of my enclosure. I use them on the back wall as a climbing spot. Haven't seen any ill effect that I know of.

Both, to be honest, but the tobacco smoke concerns me more.

Stefan has a good point. I heard (somewhere) that tobacco is particularly dangerous for reptiles. In fact, I was once told that 'snuff' can be used to euthanize reptiles.

Fake vines in washing machine with a small amount of bleach= everything in the trash. Problem solved. Snakes safe.
