    Baby Snake Died :(

    Good Morning, All...

This morning we found my baby snake dead. I'm not sure what happened. She was eating well, in fact ate 2 or 3 fish on Sunday. One of them was rather large but she did swallow the whole thing after quite a fight with it. Could the fish have been too big? Or, which has been my concern all along, maybe the fish were sick I was feeding her the fish because I knew she ate them. I had never seen her eat an earthworm.

We are all very sad here. My kids and I will be conducting our funeral in a little bit. She was one of my snuggle snakes.

Thank you for your kind words. I think we all always feel responsible for their deaths even though deep down I know some of them cannot be prevented.

I just hope that I had done everything I could for her and did not somehow cause the demise.

I doubt that you caused anything bad. You gave the little one a chance. I lost a baby on Monday. No rhyme or reason for it. I couldn't have don't anything different. There is so much we don't know about the little ones and even the adult. They are tough as nails but also fragile. We don't know what's going on inside. Birth and developmental defects, parasites, environmental issues are all still a mystery in many respects.
Thanks for your efforts on behalf of the little scrub.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

Thank you, Steve. With all of your advice, at least I feel that I did give her a better chance.
