    Increased aggression

We rescued 3 checkered garters a while back and have since found that two are def female (we have 25 babies if anyone is interested!). One of the females has become increasingly aggressive, and has bitten us as well as one of the other garter snakes. Is this normal post-laying behaviour? Any advice?

Hi Danielle, and welcome to the forum.
I have personally never seen much aggression in T.marcianus, nor particularly in post-parturition females of any species. Others may have experience of it though. Are you sure it's not simply a feeding response? Could she just be hungry?

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

Really depends, sometimes a snake just gets off a bit and will be a little mean, I wouldn't worry about it.

    Thanks for all the welcomes!

We are going to try increasing her feed for a couple of weeks, just to eliminate hunger. Going to try handling them every day too, I think being rescues they were a little neglected.

Anyone after checkered garter hatchlings?? I really need to get rid of some!

I could take some, Danielle..... I have a breeding group of marcianus already, and it couldn't hurt to expand on the gene pool. Where in England are you? I'm in the North West, not far from Manchester.
