    Smile Hello!!

Hello!!! So, I'm new. I have two Eastern Common Garter Snakes, Bizet and Wagner. ( I like to name my garters after composers.) I also have a Kingsnake, Dorian.

Anyhow, I was planning to breed my pair this spring however; Bizet, my female, escaped her aquarium when the lid got bumped. The aquarium was being kept in my basement because it was the perfect brumation temperature. Well, my basement is a treasure-trove of impossible-to-find hiding places. If anybody had some tips for luring her out, I would really appreciate it. Could it be possible for a heating pad and container of worms to work? I thought about spreading flour around it so if she came around I'd know. Thanks.

Hi Monika, and welcome to the forum.

I agree with you... a hot spot (and perhaps fresh water) would be a good start to luring her out.

hello and welcome to the forum!

yeah i think those are all good ideas.... and maybe put a hide there to convince her to stay.....

i was watching a show once and they tied bait to a sort of paprelike string when the snake swallowed it it was stuck to the string which was staked into the ground... when they found the snake they just cut the string...... think this would work?

I think that could cause major health problems for the snake! The snake would likely regurge it after realizing it was stuck anyway.

Spreading flour around does actually help. You can see very clearly when it's been disturbed.

Welcome to the forum, Monika. Sorry to hear about your escapee. Not much I can add to the ideas you already have in mind for finding her, other than the adding water to list as James mention. Dehydration would be a really bad thing for her. Fingers crossed for you.

    Re: Hello!!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everybody! I'm sure I'll learn a lot

I'll probably make two or three cozy hiding spots with water and worms, hopefully that will work.
That string-idea was interesting. I like it. However, wouldn't it be possible for the snake to just regurgitate the string and bait?

    Neat idea. Thanks, again.
