    Hanna's viewing platform

Here's Hanna and her fishies again! It doesn't really go with the room, but I had the fabric on hand, so FREE was KEY! The box has a hinged lid, so I guess it's her first toybox too!

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside
from being a little mentally ill, she's pretty normal.

I really like the idea of a dedicated perch for young uns. When it was me peering in, the best we had was a milk crate. We didn't even flip it over (DUH) so we had to balance on the edges...

    Re: Hanna's viewing platform

Thanks, everybody! They are stick ons, found them on storybookland.com, I think. They are pricey, we had grand plans for a "stranded on a tropical island" theme for her. Cash flow leaves us with "palm tree, macaw, toucan stranded in a kids room".

Her perch is turning out to be a little challenging for her to get onto, but she safely gets down without a problem. I also padded the heck out of all the corners, and the top rail. She loves it, and talks to her fishies a LOT when she thinks no one is watching or listening!

I'm thinking about how to use the left-over wood to build an enclosure for more pets for her. I'd like to put something fun and active down low for her so she doesn't have to climb to see it, but I need to do a research trip to Lowes to check out the available supplies, especially locking devices! If it comes to fruition, I'll post the pics, of course!

I think it's important for kids to have animals, and learn about responsibility and care and love and all the great things they can teach us. Right now, the only animal she can touch is our miniature bulldog, he's the only thing sturdy enough to handle "petting" (picture the little angel repeatedly slapping him in the head) and the thick-headed little bugger even seems to like it! The other dogs and the cat walk away from her. She isn't allowed to touch the snakies- disease transmission aside, I know they wouldn't survive her "petting", but she giggles and giggles and giggles watching them!

some animals seem more patient or indulgent with kids
one of our old cats was a rehabilitated house cat gone feral, and would never let anyone pick her up without struggle, so I was quite surprised when I saw little Mikhaila drag her around with her rear end hanging down and the cat not so much as even laying her ears back - weird
