    Escape from Alcatrazz

On several recommendations I separated the baby milk snakes.

They each have a medium size tote to live in, well I found out the hard way, the lids on these totes fit loose

Never even noticed, then yesterday I go down in the basement, and found a baby milk on the floor crawling about exploring...

Recovered it, took a head count and found that 2 others are missing.

half an hour later, Dorothy noticed a baby milk crawling on the kitchen floor...

2 back in custody, and one at large...

Good luck getting the escapees back into captivity Lori & Wayne! I think it's one of the more worrisome things about keeping snakes! They just seem so good at getting out of whatever they're in!

    Re: Escape from Alcatrazz

I have kept garters and ribbons in these same totes with no escapes, the milks are strong, and force the way between the cover and top edge.

I want to either buy a dozen 5 gallon aquariums for keeping litters and baby snakes, but they want $15 each, and I can get 10 gallons for 10 bucks! the cover is sturdy on the 5 gallons, since the screen is narrow.

I can fit 10 of them on one shelf, I'd need 2-3 shelves for that many 10 gallon tanks.

Can't you put a divider in the 10 gallon tanks Wayne? Seems like it would be easy enough?

    Re: Escape from Alcatrazz

I'm just sitting here at work worried sick. It's gotten so cold out. :-( We're having this cold front & lots of rain and wind. I hope he doesn't get outside... Man, I am soooooooooooo mad at myself... it was totally my fault, I closed the lid crooked-- I even put the books back on top, but one corner was propped up and I didn't realize it. I HATE this.

Wayne... could you do the 10 gallons with a divider in them??

There is a thought, cut small panels and divide the tanks

One lamp over the center, warm spot for both tanks!

Hope both of you find the escapees so. I use the shoe box size totes for jv's too, Wayne. Everything from Garter babies, DeKays, Eastern Kings and Black Rats. If any start to push the lids, I simply add a weight to the top. Knock on wood...no escapes as yet.

They were all in a 20 long, but have been getting restless lately. (I figure ready to feed soon) so I separated them.

I have used these same totes before?
