    Coastal Garters and Santa Cruz

    Are these 2 kinds any different to keep than others like Checkereds.

    pretty much all garters require the same care.

    I would say, pretty much all N.American garters require the same care. you have to be more careful with Mexican garters for example.

    Coast garters are of the terrestrial species- they tend to be very easy and aggresive feeders. Mine eats like a pig.
    I dont have a santa cruz yet, but do have a Diablo- which is a very closely related sub-species. She eats very well also, although my particular snake will only eat from under her hidebox, and its very important not to disturb her right before feeding. But once I figured that out, its been no problem.
    Mine both take non-scented rodents, or fish, or frogs. It took scenting just a few times to get the diablo aquatic on rodents.
    As the others said, care is basically very similar for most North America garters, from my experience anyways.

    In summary- they are both awesome.

    my coast garter is quite a chow hound too. Never had a problem with her eating.....now, if only I could get some santa cruz and diablos...........

    I still have one "position" open for my limit of 2 aquatics, and its reserved for a Santa Cruz. Something about them- they just look cool.

    need to keep them separate to ensure no cross breeding!! or all females together and all males separate...
