    Chinese mystery snake

    Hi everyone,
Really sorry about resurrecting this thread but I have been looking for this snake for hours. I bought him yesterday in Beijing (I'm from the UK but live here). The vendor said he was a
Dinodon rufozonatum (The Chinese Red Banded snake) but I need to confirm so that I can look after him (and to make sure he doesn't bite and kill me .

The photo you posted looks exactly like mine although it could be S. annularis. I looked on snakesoftaiwan but I can't decide. Let me know what you think.

Cant post the second link but it's on the same site.

Re: Chinese water snake? Garter relative?

    Hi Carlos,
The snake you bought is S.annularis...and it looks like a girl to me...You will need to feed it in a feeding box as with your set up...that snake will end up having some bedding in its mouth...I am sure in Beijing you can find loaches...
I am also in China but far away South in Fujian province.

Cheers, I think you are right. I am having trouble feeding her. It has only been a few days but I have tried a few different things. I started on very small aquatic frogs but she just stared at it for hours. I then tried a dead pinky thinking it was a Dinodon rufozonatum that didn't work so I tried a live one the next day. He was scared of the pinky. Today I tried a bit of fresh fish from the supermarket. I don't know the type because I can't read Chinese. She ignored it even when I tried emulating movement. Not sure what should try next? What are loaches?

I have only had corns and pythons before.

All I get on a google search for "S.annularis" is a fish, snails, and bugs.

I would recommend, but thats a personal choice, to try and find this info BEFORE purchasing a snake.

    Good luck with the animal!

This is a ringed water snake (sinonatrix annularis) and I have wanted these for so long! Some importers have produced t+ and t- albinos as well! They feed on fish and amphibians in the wild, but can be coached to take scented hairless mice! Very nice snake! Thanks for sharing!

I thought it looked a bit like a water snake. It sure is pretty and looks to be in good shape.
