    Post your Petco/Pet Store pics/videos

Walked on over to the Petco a few blocks away (East Vancouver, WA) today. They have a very clean and well maintained store and all the animals look good. I wanted to find out about that enclosure setup I was talking about in another thread. Turns out it's made by North American Pet Products.

I don't see the same setup on their website that I see at my local petco, but still. Neat setups they got for reptiles. Now if I was only rich I'd buy a bunch of them.

Some other pics from the store:

Another normal ball python for someone to get bored with and abandon:

And of course, you can never have too many water dragons crammed into a small tank.

    This one was labeled "tortoise"

Many more pics and videos left to post but I'll stop there for now.

It would be cool if everyone would go to their petco's or other pet stores and show us what they got.

Your petco looks amazing! Last time I went in mine, every single goldfish in the store was covered in the same fungal infection, there was a terrifyingly thin pac on the wrong substrate, and they had a full grown Jackson's chameleon crammed into a small 3.5 gallon tank with absolutely nothing to even grab onto to get off the ground. They don't even bother to put the bettas in filtered tanks with small dividers, they just leave them on the shelf in the half-filled shipping cups they come in. I think they hate to see me come in, because I tend to be a little vocal about my displeasure. lol They'd probably think I was documenting to try and report them if I went in there with a camera.

I like the "tortoise" Ours just likes to charge double price for 'fantasy' pacs that are actually cranwelli.

My PetSmart is TERRIBLE!!! They are trying to charge $12 for 6 frozen pinkies! They are day old pinkies! I could get my own mice breeding colony for that type of money! They keep their bettas on the shelf in those cheap shipping containers and don't even to refill their water. It always kills me to look on the shelf and see 4/10 bettas dead! They keep all their reptiles in the same temperature. They try to keep a bearded dragon at the same temperature as an anole! Their water dishes are never full and their leopard gecko's tails look like an earthworm that died on the sidewalk due to overheating. I only buy from PetSmart if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Their customer service is terrible. I once waited on hold for 12 minutes to find out that they don't know if the product is in stock or not! Their feeder fish are left with nothing to eat except for the decaying, water-logged remains of dead feeder fish.

This is the same store that used to be across the parking lot from where it is now, (they simply moved) but that was more than 10 years ago. It was the same way. Emaciated listless lizards in filthy tanks, snakes dying and covered in mites, and every other imaginable horror. Ever since they moved, things changed. In fact, things changed in every store in the metro area. Too many complaints and it even went up to corporate level. They responded and got their **** together. They've slipped back a little now and then but for the most part, it's been like it is now.

PetSmart here doesn't even carry live animals. Just small stores with pet supplies/grooming services. Mostly caters to cats and dogs.

And this Petco does have a shelf full of bettas in a cup. Doesn't seem to bother the bettas any. I see the same ones still thriving after months in the containers. They just had a couple of them in big tanks. I even bought two of their bettas in a cup before. I ended up having them for about 8 more years in containers not much bigger than 1/2 gallon.

The aquarium section here is pretty amazing. But they don't tend to it themselves. An outside company comes in and does all the maintenance and care. No sick fish here. They did have one big tank with fancy goldfish in it that said "held for observation - not for sale at this time". I assume that probably means they are under quarantine or being treated for something but the fish looked fine.

Baby corns were a bit thin, but at least there was no crickets or obvious signs of mites in their tank.

Red eared slider (I thought these were banned in WA but apparently not)

And it's not all the worker's fault here, the company just hires anybody they can find.

Owner: "Oh, hey, you used to work as a car mechanic? You start tomorrow!"

And the pictures are BEAUTIFUL. In NJ we cannot own wild colored corn snakes. We can own albinos just no wild-colorations (Normal, Miami Phase, Okatee). We can't sell turtles in NJ but if we go out of state to get one or catch one in/out of state, we can own them.

The problem with these damn sliders is that people release them in the local ponds where native turtles live. I guess they figure if there's other turtles there... but they're doing a lot of harm. They outcompete the natives and just take over. One good turtle pond here has threatened and declining western pond turtles (and painted turtles) so thankfully that's being carefully monitored by wildlife officials. They go out every year and trap/remove/destroy the sliders. Doesn't get rid of them but it keeps them from overtaking the natives.

That would be awesome. I could only imagine how much that would have to cost...Or maybe I don't want to imagine....

Still looking for prices. Strange they make it so difficult to find out but I found this page while I was at it: North American Products | Custom Acrylic, Metal, Wood, Plastic, Glass Manufacturing

I'm sure the setups are super expensive. They make the stuff for retail establishments. And they're not herp enclosure specialists. They make all kinds of displays and products for retail stores.

    They sure are cool though.

NOwhere do they list prices. They want you to call them. That high, huh?
