    Baby Checkered Issue

I have noticed something in my T.marcianus babies (Checkered garter) When hemostat feeding the babies they seem to have issues with opening their mouth and grabbing the food. They push against the food and seem to want it but they have to try over and over again. They do take it eventually but it doesn't seem right.
Is anyone else having any issues like this or have you seen anything like this.

I'm not sure this is the same issue but my snakes some times push against there food (worms) and see if it responds. if it does they grab it very quickly, if it doesn't move they will try a couple more times and move on. not sure if this helps, hope it does. good luck!

Can't say I had this issue with my baby marcianus. Have seen it with cornsnakes though. It usually disappeared as the snakes became older. How young are these little guys? I didn't know that you managed to breed your marcianus.

My babies do this with food such as pinky legs or tails... I've never known why they do it, but every single young snake that I've kept does it.

    Re: Baby Checkered Issue

Many of my snakes like to headrub food - it seems to be part of assessing if they want to eat an item or if it is indeed food at all. They do it more with dead and unfamiliar foods and when they are no longer ravenous, bu still sttuffing it in.
My checkered does it a lot- I thought kit might be poor (albino) vision but the Butlers do it also with fish and pink ppieces, but seldom with worms unless already stuffed,

I only have experience with my two (1 adult, 1 baby), and both are sniff-n-grab kinda eaters. But then they are not Checkered, so never mind.
