Moss sauna & splitting up babies

I got some advice a while ago from a sand boa breeder, helping me with an issue with my female kenyan flame sand boa (she was continually rubbing her eyes against everything, despite the fact that she'd had a clean shed). I put a tupperware in with some moist moss, on the warm side. She inspected and has just about lived in it since. She LOVES it, and did stop rubbing her eyes. (There very well was an eye cap on i couldn't see.)
I've since put a sauna in just about everyone else's cage, and they have all used it periodically, weather in shed or not.

Anyway, i decided to put a small one in for the garters. I am still housing them together, even though the're male and female because they are *so* small still. The male has only had one shed since i got him and they are both wee little things, though the female eats all she can and has doubled in size (of course lol).

Anyway, on a side note i'm worried to separate them when i do, because i don't have other garters to house with them. (Females with females, another male for the male, etc) They hang out and lay on or near each other *all* the time. I feel bad splitting them up! (Any advice on that?)

Okay, so back to the story...they hate the sauna! Want no part of it, except to use it as another perch. These guys LOVE to perch! I have wood, pvc pipes, the sauna, and a clean "bush" branch in there, and they take turns perching on all the items. I've seen them down at the bottom or at the water dish, and thermoregulating, but they especially love to perch. Just chillin, and watching me clean up the snake room.
    Anyway, i was just surprised.
I would have though they would like a moist area. It's enclosed, so maybe they are just still little and wanting to keep an eye on everything?

Anyone else used a "sauna" for snakes?

I use a moist moss box for my snakes. I dont typically find them in there, but they do go in before a shed. One of my snakes really likes to poop in there to!

You should be alright to seperate the two. Personally, I do not enjoy housing them in isolation. I think that they are more comfortable when other snakes are present. That being said, many do house garters individually. Its all up to personal preference.

For my babies...I put a pile of moist moss in the corner of the tank...a good sized pile without substrate under it...and I moisten it often. My babies love it...they hide in it all the time. I also have a pile like that in for Cee Cee and Sadie...they don't seem to like to go into hides with moss in it...but like to sit in the corner in the moss pile. As for separating your snakes...I really think garters do better with company. I always plan to have a same-sex mate for any garter I get. When I had to separate my male and female easterns...I got same-sex roomies for them. They just seemed lonely after I separated them and are very happy with their new roomies. You may want to think about getting same sex mates for them. Just remember you will have to have a quarantine period before putting any new snakes in with your snakes you have now.
