Butterscotch FIRST SHED!!

So I work nights and while I slept yesterday our snake had her first shed. The kids came in and woke me all excited. The fact that this happened at the time it did hit me funny because Steve had just asked in a pm about looking for signs of the shed coming on and how it can be tricky to see in albinos. This was sent on Sunday and because of being out of town and busy I did not get a chance to read it until yesterday as the skin from the shed had been discovered by my son. Steve, I know we will talk Wednesday and I can't wait, tons of questions. Anything worth worrying about at this point? She seems fine. Very cool, only wish I could have seen it. I'll try to post some pics. Our little girl is growing up. Ha ha.

How's that injury on the tail looking after the shed?
Did you see both eye caps and a complete tail shed?

Congrats...it's always so exciting experiencing firsts with a new garter! I think Steve basically covered everything...we want pics, check the tail thoroughly, and make sure the shed came off in one piece and that you saw the eyes caps and all of the tail, right down to the little tip. I usually take my finger and hold my snakes and gently run my finger over them feeling for any bits of shed left...this is usually something I do, though, if the shed came off in pieces and not in one piece. A couple of my snakes have problem sheds. If you saw the whole shed, she should be fine.

The injury to the tail looks good. The dark color it had to it is gone. She does look like she has a nick missing in the area if that makes sense. I'll try to capture in pics what I mean. I saw the eye caps, I think I know what you mean by that. The shed all the way to tip of tail I'm not sure about. I can see what you mean by being really bright and fresh looking. I don't think the shed came totally off because the tip of her tail seems kind of dull still. Do I rub and see if I can't work it off or will it do it on its own? I know, pics, pics, pics.

Take a warm wet/damp towel and lightly pinch the tail section in the towel, letting the snake pull the tail out of the towel.
You might have to do it a few time with a varying degree of pressure on the tail.

So Sunday night I'm off to work and what do I come home to on Monday morning (5/14)???? Shed number two!!! Looks like from the two side by side she has put on about an inch in length between sheds. All this has been done on worms alone, so next step, we're going to add some fish and maybe pinkies to the menu.

Check that tail again...congrats on the new shed! Sometimes I am able to gently take my fingernail and scrape the left over shed from my Hermes tail...he always leaves a bit on his tail too. Just be careful to be gentle. Try the moist towel first.

So in changing out water this morning I noticed a gift was left for me.... shed #3. The tip of the tail from the injury area on down remained. Worked it off with a warm cloth. She looks awesome. Pics next.
