    San Francisco garters

I'm wanting to get a San Francisco Garter to go along with the common Ribbon Snake I have already. I really like the red coloring of that particular type. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find one? Other than cruising the local pet stores until I chance upon one?

Hi Patrick. I'm afraid it's ilegal for you to keep San Fransisco Garters in the US. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Well that is a drag. Thanks for letting me know that. Are there any other types that have a similar coloring?

    K. Are there any online stores to purchase a snake like that from? Or do I just have to do the hit and miss thing at my local sellers?

Yes indeed... there's the California Red Sided Garter (Thamnophis sirtalis infernalis), quite similar and legal as far as I know.

If there aren't any ads in our classifieds section, there might be some over at kingsnake.com.

probably not going to find any this time of the year. check Scott Felzer's website..... Scott Felzer's Garter Snakes, specializing in aberrant garters he should have babies this year, and keep looking on here...some other members might have babies.
