And although they don't seem to show themselves much if possibly avoidable, ringnecks seem fairly hardy from my experience.

Yeah, same here. I had no problem keeping them. One important aspect is the setup. The ones I kept were from San Diego. They could only be found in shade, under fallen leaves in the wet season. They need moist hides but at the same time, dry air and plenty of dry ground if that makes any sense. Too moist and you have problems. No moist hides and you also have problems. They really require a lot of room for as small as they are, in order to provide what they need. They will go off food if the environment isn't just so. I could only get mine to eat CA slender salamanders found under those leaves. It's a bit tricky but once you get the hang of it, they do fine.
