    live rodent debacle

because I've got some snakes that haven't been eating, I thought I'd try some live rodents
they had pinkies and fuzzies at the expo (they only permit live rodents that are still blind) and I got some of each
it was one of my more stressful feeding experiences
well, they snakes they were intended for completely ignored them
the pinks were intended for the lystrophis and the xenochrophis - neither in the least interested
my maritime didn't even seem to recognize it as food
I ended up feeding them to the lizards
I tried one on Henner, the beardie, and he bit one in half and then backed away, looking rather disconcerted (he's a sensitive guy)
he did finish the half he had in his mouth, but I don't think he ever wants to try this again
the gerrhosaurus eat everything - bless them
I'd gotten the fuzzies expressly as a treat for my (won't touch dead food) concinnus
she will now take f/t pinks, as long as they're bobbing in a bit of water with a live fish or two (she won't eat the fish though)
she was not in the least interested in the live rodents (?????), so I ended up feeding them a king and a hog and was able to observe two very different methods of killing
    grrr
I'm a little relieved, because I don't have to do this again
but I still need to get those darn snakes to eat something

    it's a lot like that
    I've had occasion to compare . . .
and just when you've figured out what they'll eat, suddenly they stop eating it
and then they give you that look
like - "THAT???? that was never my favourite food, NEVER!!! whatever made you think that? you are so wrong!!!"
    I swear to you
there is an uncanny resemblance between certain of Mikhaila's facial expressions and those of certain snakes I know

LOL, Rhea... I've no good advice for you but I hope you can find something they'll eat soon!! I've seen that expression on my young ball python's face-- "What? I so did NOT eat that last week... you are confused... get it away, I HATE those!!" :-)

I wonder if it is just that time of the year? Chloe would probably stopped eating a month ago in the wild, and would be under the sunroom floor til March. She may just "know" it is winter and should not be eating. Part of the great mystery.

I think someone forgot to tell my snakes that it's almost winter and they shouldn't want to eat...........I think I need to start a salmon farm and learn how to raise slugs, because feeding day doesn't seem to come soon enough for these two lately!

    you're right, Terry
Chloe is one of the ones who stopped eating
I'm not worried about her though
    she's nice and plump
it's those skinny Indos I'm worried about
and that lystrophis that hasn't eaten yet
