Is Stripey a Boy or Girl?

Hi All, great forum here.

We have a garter snake that lives on and under our deck. We have named it Stripey, but I would rather not keep referring to Stripey as an "it." So I went on line to see if it was possible to determine the gender by just looking at the snake. I did find some pictures, but I still can't tell.

I have a couple pics I took and was hoping someone might have an idea if the snake is male or female. The length of the snake is probably 2 feet maybe. It doesn't seem too big and I've seen larger ones around our yard. Stripey seems pretty friendly and likes to pop his/her head up between the slats of the deck (the deck is built over a cement porch).

Looks like a big female. Probably gravid. Looks like Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis - Red-sided garter snake.Where are you located?

Agree with Steve, likely a female and possibly gravid as well.

Nice big female. Where are you located? Looks possibly like a Butlers garter?

Gravid female. Looks like sirtalis sp....parietalis or sirtalis would be my guess
