Cleaning out the fridge in the basement, I discovered a small container of night crawlers about 4 months old. I did a "sniff test" and they smelled fine, and since dead worms stink to the high heavens, I assumed they were all okay. I poked them a little and took one out for a few minutes and once it got a little bit warm it was moving around and seemed fine.

Are these worms okay to feed my snake, being so old? I have no idea where they're from- a friend picked them up for a fishing trip that never happened. Also, since my snake definitely seems more interested in worms now, are there any specific places that I should buy worms?

They look good for being stored that long. As long as they don't look sick I'd feed them off.

they look yummy to me! lol walmart and petsmart around us have nightcrawlers. local bait shops may have dillys if u prefer them.

Update: My snake really, really liked the worms

Considering how he/she used to refuse them so much I was surprised when he came rushing out of his hide and gulped them down lol

These nightcrawlers were huge- is it ok to put a cut worm back in the bin, or will it die and foul up the container?

That depends on where you cut the worm and which piece you put back in. If you cut above the band nothing should go back in the dirt. Cutting below the band means the worm could heal and grow a new tail.
