    Hello

My name is Joe, used to work with reptiles full-time for ten years, got burned out on that, now I work in the fish business. Don't want to see fish when I get home but I am putting together a nice herp collection. Not a lot of natracines at the moment, two pairs of western blacknecks and just picked up a pair of orange mangrove snakes. Since I work on a fish farm stuff that eats fish does really well at my house. Looking to add some more garters, so I'm posting an intro so I can get the OK to send PMs to classified advertisers.

Welcome aboard from an unseasonably warm Coventry.

Great to see another new garter keeper, the easy access to fish is ideal.
How do you find the mangroves? Things I've read say that they can be aggressive and being rear-fanged that gives them a bad reputation... Pretty snakes though.

    Welcome to the forum!

Chris, I believe he's talking about mangrove water snakes, which are non venomous and found in Florida.

    Re: Hello

Thanks Mike. The mangroves I looked at were Boiga dendrophililia, but seeing the damage they can inflict I'll be leaving it until our Joseph is much older before thinking about keeping Boiga, give it 15 years and I'll be up for the challenge.

    Re: Hello

Thanks for the welcome, the mangroves are the Nerodia, not the Boiga.

They were collected locally (Tampa area), hopefully knowing they're around here will inspire me to get in the field more often.

Had Boiga years ago, I don't remember them being particularly problematic once they started feeding, nor particularly fast, but this is going back 20 years.
