    Custom built enclosures

Okay so new obsession. I'm on youtube the other day surfing all things snakes, vivs, and related when I come across a couple that turned an end table and a coffee table into enclosures for reptiles (snake and lizard). So cool, and now all I do is search craigs list for older sturdy furniture. I don't see coffee tables, dresser, or entertainment centers anymore. Now it is all transformed into custom vivs for the ever growing snake friends I hope to call family someday. So is this cool to anyone, has anybody on the forum taken grandmas dresser and turned it into a three tier enclosure for our scaled friends? Pics and or advise would be great, even links to articles or pics that show such things. Driving to get a pizza the other day this gutted dresser (no shelves, three high) is just sitting on the curb waiting to be taken to the dump. Wanted it so bad (free I would guess) but my wife thought I was crazy and didn't want to stop. Might go back without her, I see summer project.

Repeat after me "Hello, my name is Dan and I'm addicted to garter snakes"

You have that right Steve. Anytime you look at retro end tables from the 70's and think that a reptile would be right at home in there with the right modifications...... I just have to get my wife to believe that it's functional furniture on top of being cool digs for the snakes. That when you lean over from the sofa to grab your iced tea and those eyes are looking back at you thats just a hello and how are you doing.

I was talking to Joe (Bushsnake) on the phone last night and we were talking about vacations. Most people talk about nice places to go for sitting on the beach, or going to the mountains....we were of course talking about which places would have the coolest species of garters! When I take my son to baseball practice at local parks...I immediately get out of the car and do a visual sweep to see if it looks like a good place for herping. Ha ha! The mind of the garter enthusiast! Only we understand!

    Re: Custom built enclosures

I really want to get an old glass-front china hutch and turn it into an enclosure for a green tree python. I think it would make an awesome display piece.

I've considered turning my dresser into an enclosure, but just a few weeks ago I got a deal on three 5-level racks from a python breeder, so I don't need the space right now. But I still think it's a cool project.
