    My Eastern Garter :)

So my wild eastern garter has shed for his first time! 1 day after that, he eats his worms!! He is doing perfect now. I'm just wondering how often and how much worms i should feed him at once? Here's a pic of his shed and a video of him eating! Sorry the video isn't best quality

Mine eat about twice a week, and I usually feed them until they decide to stop eating.

Around here, they say to feed them until you can see a lump in their belly and then stop.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

Thanks for sharing the pic and the video. When you feed your snake...you may want to move him into another tank that has just paper towels down, or if you don't have another tank available, make sure to put paper towels down in his tank to cover up the aspen and then put his food dish down on top of the paper towels. If he drags the worms down into the aspen while eating, and gets aspen on the worms, it could cause an obstruction in his stomach...which is very bad.

Yes i am aware of this. But i am away at college right now and my snake is at my moms house. So she is the one trying to feed it lol. and she hates touching him. Once i am home i will feed him the right way. and yes i will tell her to put a paper towel underneath the worms. Thanks!

I cut up the worms into 1/2" pieces on the lid of a chip dip container. Cutting board and serving tray in one! The pieces are short enough they don't seem to drag them through the aspen.

I would still always recommend putting something underneath to prevent the possibility of them dragging it into the substrate. It's just too risky not too. If they should decide to drag a piece into the substrate and you don't have something under the dish, then you might have a bad situation on your hands. I have seen my snakes drag very small pieces off their dish onto the paper towel many times.
