I've watched a lot of videos involving garters fishing in their bowls. I have to say, for semi-aquatic animals that eat a lot of fish, they're not very good at it. It looks as if they don't use their eyes when they're underwater and just wait to bump into something.

I always wanted to try garter fishing but I feel she is still to small so i'm going to wait , and who knows maybe some of those snakes were blind

That's funny, I always thought they were very good fisher snakes.
I must disagree with the no eyes comment. I've seen them many times look and strike at individual fish.
I do enjoy watching them fish.

ok, good. maybe the ones on youtube are just sub-par. i also can't wait to get mine fishing.....she's thought about it a few times, but is a bit too shy.

Young snakes will fish for guppies and do very well at it.

Which guppys by the way ? Or can you just direct me to the safe fish list , thanks

If you don't have any water conditioner, set out some water now.
This way the water will be safer for the fish and allow them to live longer in the water bowl.
Out of the tap water can kill fish.

The one time I attempted to feed live fish to Seeley when I first got him...he just glared at the bowl like there was a giant alien in it and the fish kept jumping and flopping out of the bowl...lol....then Seeley went and hid. It wasn't very successful.

When I fed Glyph live fish, I'd put them in his water bowl. He'd nonchalantly slither over to the bowl, get in, and proceed to play with his food for a while, I guess.

I've seen videos of them strike at fish very fast, but Glyph will stick his head halfway in the bowl and go around in circles in the bowl, following the side with his nares, chasing the fish and then changing direction (I guess he gets dizzy). It's hysterical.

But the thing is, it looks like he's not even trying. Like aquamentus_11 said, they must not be very good fishers, heh. He takes his sweet time. Sometimes hours. He always ate them, though.

I'd be interested to see our Cuitzeos fishing in a larger aquarium. From all accounts they are amongst the best adapted garters for fishing, and the process of using their tails as a lure has been observed in the wild.
If it wasn't for fish I actually like in my 60l aquarium I'd consider letting Lacrimosa and Vlad have a go with some guppies... If anything happens to the aquarium and my betta and corys die, I'd definitely consider giving it over to the Cuitzeos, either with some feeder fish or the neon tetras (if they survive the betta and corys) I don't have any attachment to the tetras, the betta and corys I do.
