    Western Blackneck

OK, so predictably there were requests for photos of our new Western Blacknecks. These shots are all the same one, I think it's the male, the female has a brighter yellow stripe... But I could have got that wrong with them being new. This guy was CB July '11.

A nice head-on shot, the focus on the eye is so perfect that in the 3000x4000 pixel original I can zoom in and see the stained glass pattern of our front door reflected in his eye (yes, I was happy with the way this pic came out ) -

Next are a couple that show the patterning better.

A coiled one, albeit slightly obstructed by the log...

And finally, one with Lightning for comparison to a Checkered. Lightning is a few weeks younger.

These blacknecks are another snake where the photos don't do them the justice they deserve, I should be able to get some better pics when I've got better light to play with.

Nice pics Joe. Yours seem to be a lighter olive colour to ours with a less pronounced checker pattern, do they lighten as they get older?
Now we have the Westerns I would be tempted by some Easterns if they were available. I like the larger splodges on the Easterns.

    Re: Western Blackneck

After a while bit of a viv reshuffle the Blacknecks and checkereds have ended up in one of our 60cm ExoTerras. As the viv is a lot bigger and taller than their old one they have higher, more sturdy plants. One of our Blacknecks thinks it's a tree snake... She's been sleeping at the top of one of the plants, and has been showing off on "the tightrope" by going to one turning around and going back. The tightrope is the wire for the hygrometer which runs along half the width of the top rear of the viv...

She sleeps coiled around branches at the top of the plant on the right.
