    BlackNeck Temperament.

    Hey people,

I have a question for those of you who are working or have worked with T. c. ocellatus.

I recently bought a female black neck... I was just wondering what is the general description of these garters temperament compared to other garters... I know the infernalis are well infernal, the easterns and radix easy going and so on. But what about the black necks...

After 4 weeks, my female is getting used to my presence but still retreats swiftly after I am present for a couple of seconds in front of her cage. She feeds voraciously on anything presented from tongs though. I am by no means complaining about her habit. I am fairly used to flighty snakes!! hehe I just want to learn more about this fascinating sub species!

I'll had picture when I figure out how to pause her without stressing her.

I cannot speak for all of them, however mine is a nervous flighty snake...

She does not like human interaction one bit.

Mine all seem to be O.K.... I have 2.3 of them... At feeding time, watch out! They are highly aggressive feeders.... mine angrily snatch fuzzies off my tongs as if the fuzzies called them a name or something. I can handle them without being musked or pooped on... so they're really not so bad. Even my gravid girl is pretty docile!

I had several for a while, typically (as with all garters) I find the female is usually much more willing to tolerate human interaction. Both of mine handled it quite well. I had times were I even took them outside and they would crawl between my fingers for a half hour or so and not try to flee the scene.. Like Shannon said watch out during feeding they are NUTS! These guys/gals were one of my favorite to keep and I miss them very much
