Melanistic x Albino?
Can you breed a melanistic with an albino? and what would you get? I was just thinking about it and thought I'd ask the experts

If they are the same species/subspecies then why not. If you search the threads you'll find a recent post of an albino strain with a melanistic trait appearing to come through.
Keeping - 'Florida blue' sirtalis, concinnus, infernalis, parietalis, radix, marcianus and ocellatus.

Just checked .... you wont find any melanistic checkereds by the way ... so you'd have to start a different project if you want to go down this route.

there are albino melanistic easterns out there. They are really different looking. I will probably get one soon just for the genetic power they have, but i find them highly unattractive... but to each his own!

yes, you can breed a melanistic and an albino...all babies will be het for both traits. the resulting offspring can be bred together to produce albinos and melanistics. Tom Dickinson (snakeman) has an albino melanistic....has both traits... he has pics somewhere....

I was just curious about what you'd come out with, I'm just a beginner in breeding so I don't think I'm ready for that kind of genetics yet

Yeah, I saw that too. Weird looking snake. It was both amel and mel at the same time. Both genes competing. I didn't think it was possible, but he set me straight.

You would come out with normal looking babies that carry the genetics for both morphs. You breed those babies together and you will get albinos, melanistics, normals, and a 1 in 16 chance of a snow.
