Re: Abrupt lump after feeding?
Looks like the bump I pulled a thread-like worm out of on my ribbon snake. But it could also be an abcess, a trip to the vet would be a good idea.

Re: Abrupt lump after feeding?
I took her to the vet today. I don't know what to think of this guy.
I had to work, and since I didn't have an appointment, I would have to leave her, and pick her up when I got off.
He did make a small incision and pulled out another worm. I didn't see it, but he told me it was sizable. I got a script for an antibiotic for the incision- He didn't give anything for worms, because he said that if there are any others in more vital areas, it wouldn't do her any good to kill them while in there.
He recommended that she be kept in quarantine, with store bought trout, salmon, etc treated with the standard supplement powder.
I am to watch over her to see if anymore surface. So, she got treatment, but it was more for the symptom, instead of the cause-
My fingers are crossed, and pray for the best.

Re: Abrupt lump after feeding?
Jason,
Great job getting her to the Vet.
She's lucky to have someone looking out for her.
I wonder if a snake could be given the same type of treatment a dog receives for heartworms. IV drip of arsenic. I had a dog treated once. My Vet said they give just enough poison to kill the worms but not the dog.
I wonder if this type or many types of parasites could be affectively managed by this kind of treatment. Not sure I would want to volunteer one of mine for a clinical trial. As hardy as Garters are I'm not very confident their systems could take that kind of poison, in any amount.
Just a though.

I had a bunch of these subcutaneous worms come out of a couple of the xenochrophis I got a few years ago
eventually it just stopped, and the one snake that is still alive, is doing well

ugghhhhh jisueioaskdnsgdsg.
I am shaking with disgust.... parasites really flip me out!!! I dont know what I would do if I found these on one of my snakes...
At my store not too long ago, I saw something in some of our channel catfish's eyes. I took one out and held him still and inside each of his eyes there was a flatworm just swimming around in there!!! UUGHHH.
