I think you're reading too much into it.

I don't think so. Some concinnus are dang near as smart as dogs and radixes definitely can be just as smart if not smarter than concinnus.

One of my concinnus males ate 6 silversides today. First meal coming out of brumation and certainly the first time the snake was fed by hand, by a human being. He's a very docile, calm male.

After that first fish, he stopped looking around the tank for the source of the fish smell and started reaching far into the air. That's where the fish came from and he remembered. Now anytime I get my hands near the tank, he's like a dog begging for food and follows my fingers. That's after ONE feeding.

They're smart. Very smart. The tail slap got Steve's attention. That radix will remember that, AND remember Steve's attention = Food.
