    fun at feeding time

With lots of babies, and more on the way, feeding them is a challenge!

The easy way would be to just dump food into the communal tank, anyone who has done this knows what can and will sooner or later happen.

Feeding one by one will not only prevent food fights, in some cases FATAL food fights, but ensures each one is getting the same fair portions.

Found these ideal feeding chambers at wal mart for $3 each.

The lady at the register said something to me about my cart full of totes, So I had to throw in the snakes bit and instead of the usual strange look, she actually asked what species I had

Wow, I always get both. First the strange look and then the question.

Oh and my favorite, the "reptile associate" at petco who seems very interested, right up until the words Garter Snake enter the conversation, then they suddenly go deaf!

I even started out with words like Melanistic, anery, albino.. Didn't seem to matter, they were not pythons, boids or corns, just lowly little garter snakes, a kids first pet whooptie doo da.

And they wonder why on line shopping is so popular

Typical conversation from a couple of years ago... "Hi, I need to get some rosy reds & frozen pinkies." "Sure, what you feedin?" "A garter snake." "Oh." End of conversation. Sound familiar? Now we know rosy reds aren't the greatest and I have a much better(cough, cheaper) supplier of pinkies. I don't really miss the exciting exchanges at Petco.

Oh. Because you know, it seems to me that, aside

Garters were Dave's first snake. Actually I don't think he ever had anything but a garter(s). He really wanted me to get a milk snake when I was looking for my own snake that I could use in the program, but I liked Hoggies better. Like, I don't even like milk snakes at all.

Because garters are my first and biggest love, it amazes me anyone thinks they're lowly. They're the perfect snake to keep. Cute, easy to care for, WONDERFUL species characteristics ("personalities").

I don't know why they have the reputation they do. It's silly. People have skewed thoughts. Garters are at the TOP, not the bottom!

3.1 Western Hoggies; Kenabec, Niizh, Kokopelli, Anasazi
3.0 Puget Garters; Kunikpok, Tungortok, 'Rockster

Too cheap, too easy to get and subsequently too easily gotten rid of.

Too easy to get? I searched two years for an adult female puget sound. They can go pick up one of their ball pythons or corns for $30 anywhere!!

The morphs and non-native subspecies are very hard to find, especially here in Canada. But most people, when you say "gartersnake" think only of whichever ones happen to be found out in their yards.
I've actually asked at the local pet shop why they don't carry non-native species of garter, and was greeted with a surprised, "Oh, there are different kinds??"
