    European night crawlers...

Are these safe to feed to garters?

I don't know if it applies to all Eisenia species, it probably doesn't, but members of the genus, E. f(o)etida, for example, are known to be toxic.

edit: It seems that E. hortensis is synonymous with Dendrobaena veneta. I wonder which is the current one.

    Re: European night crawlers...

my bait store carries red wigglers, which are the bad, toxic kind that are popular for composting, because the tend to stay put
the "other kind" are European night crawlers and they can grow bigger than some baby snakes, but they are safe to feed, and for those garters who are into them, they're apparently the ultimate delicacy
and the bait store doesn't do scientific names
