    does anyone know about boas?

i bought i nicarauguan boa at a show. shes 2 years old about 3 foot long. she was super sweet when we were at the show holding her,but when we got her home she turned mean she bit my oldest daughter then bit my wife . we have had her for 2 weeks now and she is still grumpy and trying to bite all the time . i was just wondering if boas were just mean or if the move has her rattled?

idk about that but good choice on getting a boa that stays small, much easier to manage

she is probably stressed out. snakes tend to be so overly stressed at a show that they son't even bother to bite anymore at a show. you need to give the snake some time alone... like a good two weeks, and then you can start working with handling her. she didn't turn mean, she just is very stressed out.

A few things about boas (and pythons) General rule of thumb.

Keep handling down to a minimum, They may seem docile and tolerate the handling, but the more you do it, the more it upsets them.

if the snake wants a mouse twice a week, let him have it.

Avoid sudden motion near the head area, any kissy or nuzzle will get you bit. They are best handled slowly, steadily and begin in the middle avoiding the head and neck.

Read a few care sheets on this particular boa, incorrect husbandry can make them cranky. Humidity off? temps? have you had it outside?

Several of my snakes act totally different outside.

My corn snake has never bit, had him out in 80 degree weather, he tried to eat my finger.

What were the circumstances surrounding the bite incidents?

he bit when we first got him from the show. then i got her out a week later after feeding her 2 mice that week and she started striking at me so i put her back in. i got the temp at 85 on the warm side about 77-78 on the cool. humidity about 50. maybe i will just stick to the garters . thanks for all the help

maybe its still hungry or maybe you have a food sent on you or around you, and yes I don't care what anyone says, some snakes just don't like to be botherd and will let ya know it every time, and this is where we say they are mean, you just have to remember your not the snakes usual company..............

Honestly, MANY snakes prefer to be left alone.

We have several that are great, as long as the glass separates us.

But just try and reach in there

She might be stressed....you should give her some time to herself. I have never had any problems with boas...well, that's not true...Tree boas are NASTY.
