    Scar?

I noticed something odd on a lot of my baby garters.
On the belly near the vent there appears to be a "slit" or fold in the skin. I've noticed it on newly born garters too, but it appears to go away with age. What exactly is this?

thats where their umbilical cord in the egg sac was attached...like your belly button, but goes away...

Ah. I was thinking something like that!
Do other snake species show it too? On egg laying species?

probably, the cord comes from the yolk and nourishes the babies.

Kyle, I had to cut the cords with scissors on two of my milk snake babies when they hatched.

Guess I'm a "cut the cord" kind of dad.
