    A WARNING to herpers!

DO NOT get up earlier and go looking for garter snakes.

I rolled out of bed this morning at 6:30 to go herping at my choice spots with a friend; the first two were a complete failure. Apparently the snakes don't like getting up early either.

Also, check ground cover after 6 pm. You'll find more stuff.

That's the same situation here in Iowa for me. The last couple of outtings have been a bust. Still better than being at work or doing house chores.

hahaha, I don't know what you are talking about kyle, when I go herping up in potter county I purposely get up with the sun rise because the garters all come out to sun as soon as it hits the ground!!! And then midday the activity dies down, then in the evening they come back out again. Also it gets cold at night up there, so If I lift stuff at night with a flashlight I Find tons and they never even move because it's too cold!!!

Different continent, but I always find early morning herping to be quite fruitful, compared with later in the day.

6:30 is a little early for me. I like to get to my spots about 8 in the morning.

It is still too hot here in our neck of the woods at that time. It is either morning or dusk for us.
