    switching to mice?

    Hi All
I tried thawed fuzzies again last night scented with worms and after my large female Lelu ate a couple of large night crawlers she started to check out the mouse and bang she took it. I have tried this before with no success so this was a big break through and better than a steady diet of worms even with calcium powder added. My smaller male Riddick didn't seem interested this time again but maybe next time. This will simplify feeding over the winter if they decide not to brumate. The female wil probably get big quicker on mice too. so all is well Oh yes I took the babie snakes Lelu had (3) after giving them a good feed back to the pond to replace what I took because 2 snakes is enough for me and nobody I knew wanted one

Great news on the one. Be patient on the other, he'll get hungry enough. Remember, pinkies are great but worms are also good for them. Variety gives them all the nutrients they need. All the foods(worms, pinkies, safe fish) have something good to offer. Keep up the good work.

I will still offer the worms as a change. I wish I could get a supply of frogs. I hate to catch them wild and the ones I find are way too big or tiny tree frogs. Worms become harder to get and are more expensive in winter from pet store so a nice fuzzie or even a small adult will keep them full for a little longer it also makes for easier poo clean up or so I am told it does anyway. I have a plan to go to a clean spot where I collect smaller worms for my Turtle and load up and refrigerate them to cut costs for winter feeding

Sounds like you have a plan. Are their no worm breeders you can purchase from?

it's true - worms are kind of pricey when you have to buy them

    Re: switching to mice?

My female is turning into piglet! I offered another fuzzie tonight along with a pinkie with 3 nightcrawlers (6 pieces) cut in half get a good scent on mice. Well the female took the fuzzie right away first the male watched closely and then tried to take a bite which led the female to head off to the otherside of tank. The male sniffed pinkie but took some worms instead he ate 3 pieces and then checked out pinkie but no real interest, he's not real big any way (12 -14 inches?) the female then came back took 2 pieces of worms and then ate the pinkie! ( she's about 20-22") She ate a fuzzie on the 3rd today is the 12th with a few worms in between more for the male. Is this OK or too much for her? I guess they won't brumate if she's eating like this. She doesn't look fat

She'll let you know if she wants to brumate. At the first no feed, mark it on the calander and keep close track of it. They need at least 3 week to empty their stomach out before they can take the cold nap.
Sounds like you've got some good eaters there.
    Nice job, Dwight.
