    Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata

I was out looking for a garter and I found some red bellied snakes. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to keep these snakes as pets and if so how successful were you? If there is no one that has I would still appreciate any information you can give me. The sooner I get some answers the better as I still have some in a set up in an enclosure, but I want to return them exactly where I found them asap if these can't be kept.

    Will add pics later

    Thanks
    Tyrel

If it's like the S.dekayis in my area they keep just like most Thamnophis. Love the little brown snakes.
Looking forward to a picture or 2 or 3.

They are not just snakes. They're garter snakes.

I kept a group, they are very reclusive, they eat slugs and worms...

Will be pleased to help along the way.

    To this I agree wholeheartedly.

Like I said, they are reclusive, they do not like interaction in contrast to the Storeria Dekayi..

I would personally put them back.

Seek out a Dekayi, they thrive well in captivity.

I really wanted these guys, but I used my better judgment and released them. Better to have them adding to their population in the wild than struggling to survive in an enclosure. BUT I am not giving up; i will continue to do research and if I can get a good food supply into place I may consider getting a pair, i just don't want to try this without proper preparation.

I have a lot of pics tho, ill add some later.
