    Fish Guts

Today I caught my limit of brook trout. I know these trout are hatchery raised and they are extremely delicious. Last time I fished I tried giving my garter snake some of the fresh organs rather then the usual pinkie. I didn't feed her stomach or intestine though. She loved it!

This time I separated out the organs into feeding portions and froze them. Anyone else ever done this and know if it is safe? The body of water is less then a 2 mile walk from my house and this snake was wild caught, so I'm not overly worried about bacteria/parasites.

I figure it is fine as when a snake eats a fish they eat all of it, haha.

I can't really think of a reason to not do that, and you might as well use them instead of throw them away

The only drawback would be that feeding organs alone is not complete nutrition, but since you also feed pinkies that is not a concern, so i'm sure it is a relished treat for them. I catch a lot of crappie and walleye and have often thought of doing the same when cleaning fish. I also thought of feeding the crappie eggs during spawn, but to me it isn't worth the risk of adding a pathogen into my collection so I never have. Instead I let my box turtles have those treats, since they are kept outside with a pond that could have anything in the water that the fish would.
