    Snuggle Bunny

How long after Freud ate is it acceptable for me to hold him without upsetting his little belly? And how long after he eats will he go to the bathroom? He had a HUGE earthworm and it was his first meal... Also, and I;m not sure if this is the same question as the one before but it doesn't hurt to ask, how long is a Butler's (or a garter's in general) digestive process?

A day or two should be enough.

    Re: Snuggle Bunny

After he settles in I believe that time will shorten up.
Many of mine can be handled right after eating but they are also extremely comfortable with their surroundings.
I don't do a lot of handling after eating but in the situations I've had to, they have never regurgitated their meal.
For now it's best to play it safe and wait, like Stefan suggests.

    Cool Re: Snuggle Bunny

I had to clean out the water bowl because one of the fish died and it didn't look fresh so I decided to see how he would take me touching him and he did well so then I picked him up and he just layed on my lap and crawled around a tad while I did my makeup He seems as joyful as ever and it already looks like the little bulge that was there is already gone... the only change is he is a little bit lazier... I love him

    Re: Snuggle Bunny

One of my two snakes actually seems to prefer being held after he eats (probably due to the warmth of my hands/body). I feed in a separate area than the living quarter, and often times, I place my hand with him inside it inside his home, and he often just stays in my hand instead, and will even rest for an hour or so.

That said, if this is a new snake to you, I would certainly give it 2-3 days before doing much handling, but it really depends on the snake's disposition.

    I'm sooo glad he ate!
I usually wait a few hours before gently handling my snakes, but both of mine are pretty laid back about being handled.

I find worms go thru pretty quickly- you will probably find a poop or a soiled water dish in the next 24-48 hours if Freuds conditions are similar to Abby and Ziva's.
I have an old towels or two that I use as lap pads when I suspect a poop is on the way. (Timing or a bit of heaviness and thickening just above the cloaca.) Getting out and active often stimulates things to move, in my experience, so I try to be ready.

If all goes well, you should see something like this in the end or is it at the end
In any event, this is a worm passing though.

I keep a digital camera on me all the time. As I walked by I saw the "flag up" and was able to get the picture.

    Re: Snuggle Bunny

Hahaha that is hilarious becuase I was just about to post a question about what it would look like if he regurgitated the worm because there was a "gift" in his cage for me this morning and I wasn't sure if he regurgitated from eating too big of a meal or if it was fecal matter but seeing that picture and post just answered my question hehe
