    Taking pic of vent?

I tried to get a pic of my eastern's vent yesterday. I would flip his tail end over but he didn't like that and bit me twice.

How do you guys do it? This guy is still pretty nervous. I have him in a plastic cage with a heating pad under it, and light on top (only one end of cage) plus some slate to hide under. So he has one hidey hole.

His cage is a large plastic storage box, about 40 inches long, 12 inches high and 15 inches wide. It has a sand bottom with a heating pad under one end, and a light above it on the same end as the heating pad. He has some slate pieces to hide under and a water bowl.

Snake is about 14 inches long.
"Oh, bother," said Pooh. And he imploded.

Try getting someone else to take the shot while your handling it he will sit still at some point, hopefully with his tail hanging down, which is when someone else can get into position to take the shot without any disturbance. Some people scan their snakes on a scanner too another option.

Ah. First, I'm the only one at home. Second, my cage is a translucent (not transparent) plastic box. I could put the snake on some transparent acrylic, which I could lie under, but he loves to run away.

I'll have to find a transparent box with a top I could put him in, so he won't run away.

    Do you have a scanner?

I have gotten vent pics by trapping the snake between my hand and the scanner, then clicking with the other hand to start the scan.

If you don't have a scanner, try cutting the bottom off of a milk jug, set it on a piece of glass and drop the snake in through the hole in the top and photo from the bottom. If you don't have glass try stretching plastic wrap over the bottom, should do the job. Good luck.

You mean in a clear plastic tube? Like a smooth pop bottle or something? Any texturing of the bottle will cause the pic to be fuzzy.

yes, but you cut the bottom off so it sits flush on the scanner, snake is upright, scanner takes pic of underside.
